Apple Doesn't Want You To See Their Product Being Destroyed

Well...

Version 1.5 of my program Stress-Relief: Smash Edition was going to include an iPhone.

But I'm sorry folks. Your friendly reviewers over at Apple seem to think that it's just not cool to smash their products.

Okay. Sure, I know a bit about Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and the part that states "simulating failures of those graphics, actions, or images is a violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement ."

But I never really believed that including a smashed iPhone in my app would violate those terms. Especially because I'm not simulating the destruction of a user's iPhone, I'm just depicting pictures of someone else's iPhone being destroyed.

Here's the text I was going to include on iTunes for my update: Now with iPhone!

Perhaps you only have an iPod Touch and are jealous of all those iPhone users out there flaunting their shiny devices. Here's a chance for you to show your contempt by smashing an actual iPhone to bits.

Or perhaps you own an iPhone. You have this strange love-hate relationship with your beloved phone. On the one hand, you're proud to have such a coveted device. But on the other hand, you regret how much time you waste on the thing. This is your chance to do some serious virtual damage without ruining your favorite toy.

And rest assurred you'll be smashing an authentic iPhone, not one of those cheap knock-off imitation shells. That wouldn't be nearly as fun as smashing the real thing.

And because I don't want to disappoint, here are the photos:

So...

I will, for the first ten people who e-mail me with their device UDID, send an ad-hoc version that includes the iPhone destruction. This way, you can help me beta test more of my smashingly fun programs in the future.

Sorry I couldn't share it with the world.

Peace.

Joel
